Students will be sharing with their parents their own current projects and year's work. Families will have 30-45 minutes to circulate the different learning centers and also view their child's work as they share with you what they have learned. Three Little Pigs Project On Friday, we had two parent volunteers come and help us to paint our Little Pig houses. We are now working on completing our reflection questions. Students who have finished writing their Three Little Pigs story have begun to work on the cover and are choosing a title for their story. We will be completing the project by the end of the week. Please ask your child what they have finished and are working to complete. This week, I will begin recording students sharing their house and what they have learned. Spanish Last Friday, Students received a picture of a Tucán . They colored it and labeled the parts of its body. We then worked on adding more vocabulary words to make guesses about where it might live and what it might eat. We made the following list: PLUMAS ALAS OJOS PIES PICO FRUTAS SEMILLAS INSECTOS MARIQUITAS COSTA RICA MEXICO ARBOL SELVA JUNGLA Next, we used sentences to talk with a partner about our Tucan. We used the following sentence starters: El Tucán tiene________. El Tucán vive_________. El Tucán come________. Today we continued to practice with a partner to construct our sentences in Spanish orally. Tomorrow we will practice writing sentences we learned to say in our journal. Volunteers for help with painting houses(change of date) We will be having a Que Pasa practice tomorrow morning. Instead, please come on Friday afternoon from 1-2 pm. Updates:
- This week, Library day has been moved to this Thursday morning. Next week we will be back on regular schedule. - Home Reading is still being adjusted for some students. - Glenmedows registration confirmation letter (green) was sent home today. Please return it on the date indicated to confirm plans for next year for your child. - This year, instead of collecting items for hampers for families in the community, we would like to collect gift cards instead. Please read the note (white) sent home for detailed information. Other Volunteer Opportunity: I would like a volunteer to help me set up Stem centers for the classroom connected to our Building Things unit. It would require cutting and laminating the center activities and also helping with set up of each bin once I have all the materials ready. Please contact me if interested. Today's Learning: In science students finished building their Three Little Pig's house. The next step will be to paint it. I would appreciate parent volunteers who would like to come in on Wednesday morning to help with painting from 9-10:30 am and then from 10:45-11:15 am. In Spanish, we learned vocabulary for animals. We practiced our oral skills by saying which animals was our favorite, what color(s). We will also be learning vocabulary for describing animals as we practice our writing and speaking. This morning students met with me to go over their little pig house plans. They explained their building design and proposal and were given feedback regarding their design. They then made changes and adjustments in their planning before beginning their building this afternoon. While constructing using materials they chose, students encountered problems they needed to solve. Parent volunteers and myself supported students with questions to help them along and also recorded their changes. Next week, students who have not finished will be given more time to complete. Those who are finished will reflect in their journal what they have learned. They will also meet with me again and will be 'interviewed' to present their little pig house to me.
Thank you to all volunteers who came to help support students with building their house today and thank you families for helping collect recycle materials for our building. Below are a few pictures of our afternoon. Today students worked on finishing their designs of their Three Little Pigs house. Tomorrow we will have parent volunteers helping us with building in the afternoon. Please ask your child if they require any additional building items from home and help them bring it tomorrow. I will be providing materials tomorrow but there are a few that children have decided to bring from home ie. lego, cans etc.
