This afternoon the Foothills Brass Band came to our school. We learned about the different kinds of brass instruments. We also learned about Canadian history through the songs played and got to sing along too. In science, we demonstrated our understanding of the 5 senses through a sorting activity. We used magazines and objects and categorized them for: taste, touch, hear, smell, and see. Tomorrow we will keep working on it.

Please read my email regarding Prodigy Math Game, Essential Skills, and Raz Kids. Students will have their own account to log in both at school and at home after they do their pre-test with me.
Today we learned about the color black in Spanish. We names things that are black ie. gato(cat) , chaqueta (jacket), araña (spider), Murciélago (spider). We then tried to make sentences orally using the phrase; Esto es_______. ie. Esto es un gato negro. ie. Esto es una chaqueta negra. Today we learned how to say what our favorite color is in Spanish. We practiced by playing a game together. Choose your favorite color and use the phrase: "Mi color favorito es__________."
Student pictures arrived and were sent home today. Student's who took re-takes if ordered and not sent home today will be sent home when they arrive at the school.
In science we continue to learn about the 5 senses. Today we learned the tongue has 100,000 taste buds. We also learned that the tongue senses different tastes: bitter, sweet, sour, salty and umami (savory). We made predictions about where on the tongue we could taste: a pretzel, pizza with anchovies, chocolate chips, lemon pie, lime drop, and pickles. Due to an event in the library today, our library time has been scheduled for tomorrow before recess. Students who brought their books back today dropped them off in the library. They will get other books tomorrow. If children did not return their library books today , please return them.
In math, we practiced counting by 2's using mittens. We wrote the numbers on mitten cards and placed them in order. We learned that the CH and SH are married and make one sound like the TH does and also learned about the -ing ending. In Math we are practicing counting by 1's to 100, 2's to 20, and 10's to 100. Stephen's Backpack event will occur tomorrow. If students wish to bring money in order to buy toys and/or books please bring it. Today we used manipulatives to create our own patterns using shapes. Srta. Sandra taught us a game to make shapes with our bodies. We will keep learning how to play in math class. We learned the vocabulary for shapes in Spanish. We discussed things we like about our favorite season such as: what the weather is like, activities, seasonal foods, and holidays. Next we drew a picture to help us with our writing.
In Math, we learned strategies for adding numbers. Students have been exploring which ones work best for them. We made a chart in class to help us remember. Today we solved adding using: fingers, pictures, blocks, number line, counting on, and visualizing the bigger number in our head. It can be verbal, social, physical, or cyber-bullying. Bullying is not a normal part of growing up, and does not build character. Book Fair: Beginning Wednesday, there will be a Book Fair in the school. Both English and Spanish books will be sold. During interviews, students can go to the Book Fair with parents and choose books together they would like to purchase. Winter Concert: Students have been practicing for our winter concert.
