Dear parents, As our teaching and learning strategies evolve to include even more digital resources, the Calgary Board of Education’s wireless infrastructure has become even more important. New technology is needed to address current and forecasted demands for a comprehensive, reliable wireless network. The CBE is thus embarking on a plan to replace wireless infrastructure in every school and facility. Rosscarrock will now be a part of the new strategy. The new wireless platform will be launched on October 5, 2017. Once the new infrastructure is launched, it will provide:
Visit the CBE Wireless page to learn more about the project and how to connect to the Wi-Fi network. Thank you for your support. Sincerely, Brenna Fraser Rosscarrock School is interested in having volunteers trained in this program: Reading and growing in schools across Alberta Creating a culture of reading is a collaborative effort, involving schools, educators, families, researchers, volunteers and community partners. The Alberta Reads Network brings all those groups together for a common purpose: to ignite children’s passion for reading. Through this collaborative partnership, we work directly with school districts in urban centres as Calgary Reads Novels and with individual schools across the province as Chapters. Our expanding network of Alberta schools is bringing the joy of reading to young students across the province. Trained volunteers are reading aloud to children, schools are hosting events to celebrate literacy and promote reading inside and outside the classroom and Calgary Reads’ programs, resources and supports are making a difference to hundreds of Alberta children every day. Make a difference one book at time There’s something magical about reading books aloud to children. It opens their minds and hearts to reading and sparks a sense of curiosity that can energize a lifetime of learning. Calgary Reads offers several school-based reading and tutoring programs for young children. And we need your help. Each program relies on volunteers to make them successful. You can volunteer as an individual or as a member of your work or community team.

Yesterday student's received a toothbrush and toothpaste kit. We will be learning about how to take care of our teeth and eating healthy foods.
A plastic bag was sent home with a reminder about Picture Day tomorrow. We will use the plastic bag to place any communication between home and school. Please keep the bag in the backpack so they can put important information inside as needed. Today we learned all about the number 1 Spanish. We drew a picture to represent it, wrote the word, did a tally, made a math problem, used a Ten Frame, and came up with a few more ideas of how we can show the number 1 . A few students did not complete their work in class. Please check your child's backpack and help them finish. We will be using the note books in class to learn about the number 2 tomorrow. Today's work in class is below. Today we learned about letter sounds E, F, G, and H. We brainstormed words like: Eagle, frog, go, and home. We learned that the walls in our classroom have important information that can help us write in our journals. Srta. Sandra showed us some new centers to help us learn our letter sounds. We put cookie letters in a jar to match letter with the picture sounds and had fun using a shoe lace and letter blocks to spell out words and/or put the alphabet in order.
In Spanish we are learning the words for colors and and learning vocabulary for objects that of each color: rojo, amarillo, and azul. Can you point to objects in your home that are rojo, amarillo, and azul? Change of date: Terry Fox Run will now be on September 27th due to Picture Day being on September 28th.

Kind regards Rosscarrock Parent Council Rosscarrock School students will be running the Terry Fox run on Thursday, September 28. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather, and is wearing clothing appropriate for outdoor physical activity.
As the weather is changing some sniffles are common so it is good to have Kleenex to wipe our noses. If possible, please donate 1 box of kleenex for our class. Tomorrow is library day. Please return library books to exchange them for different ones. Today was special! We had an assembly and watched the group Hoja perform. They showed us how our mouth can be in instrument and we even tried to make drum sounds with our mouth.
Today we learned that "A" and "I" are special. They are words! We went on a letter sound hunt to find words we can make with these two letters. We discovered there are many! During this week, practice at home joining the sounds and saying aloud these words: a, I, am, an, as, at, if, in, I'm, is, it. Remember to stretch out the letter sounds as you say them with your hands or clap it out! There will be a practice fire drill on Wednesday morning. Safety and Security
The safety and security of our students is our number one priority. The front door will continue to be locked during regular school hours, and all visitors to the school will need to buzz in and identify themselves before gaining entry to the building. Traffic Safety Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times. Pick- up Procedures Students will always be at their designated doors unless they are on the bus. If your child is not taking the bus, or there is a change in their normal routine, please CALL the office at 403-777-8390. The pick up area will be the office if the student is NOT following their normal routine. No student who is not registered on the bus will be allowed to board a bus. Please make note of this when you are arranging playdates etc. Parking Lot Please remember the parking lot is reserved for staff. We do not have enough space for parents to pick up and drop off in the staff parking lot. Use street parking following all City of Calgary signs. When at all possible, we discourage pedestrians from walking through the parking lot as there are staff members and School Board personnel arriving and leaving throughout the day, making it unsafe for pedestrians. Please use sidewalks and pathways around the school. Pedestrian Safety Did you know that according to the City of Calgary Police Service, a vehicle strikes a pedestrian, on average, once every day on our streets. Please help teach your child that motorists will not necessarily stop for pedestrians when they are crossing the road, even if they have the right of way. Motorists must stop for all pedestrians- it is the law. Wait until the pedestrian has cleared the intersection before proceeding and when other vehicles are slowing down or stopping near a crosswalk, slow down and look for pedestrians as well. Bicycles Should students ride their bikes to school, please ensure they have a good lock for their bike. There are bicycle racks on the side of the school to use for locking bikes. Students must walk their bikes on the school grounds. The school cannot assume responsibility for bicycles parked on the school grounds. Yesterday we signed out books at the library. Students learned about library rules from Ms. O. She showed students how to sign out books and how to find their library card. This year students will bring home one Spanish book and one English book once a week. Our library day is every Wednesday. Please return all library books for exchange next Wednesday.
