Today's Learning: In Math, students did another 5 minute drill today. Please review their work and finish at home. In English Language arts we have continued to work on our project of The Three Little Pigs. We have been reading various versions of the story and making comparisons. Students have started writing their own version of The Three Little Pigs. We are working on: sequencing skills, developing ideas, matching story to pictures, creating original text, and learning to add details to enrich stories with descriptive vocabulary, character names, setting, problem, and solutions. In science we are learning about structures and continued our analysis of the Three Little Pigs by working to solve the problem Srta. Sandra asked us: If you were one of the pigs in the story, how would you build your house? After developing an understanding of types of materials and connectors students can use, they drew out their design today using 3 d- shapes and labeling the part of their house to map out their drawing. We have been collecting recycling materials for building and will continue to accept materials in the class. Students have also asked if they could bring materials from home like legos, blocks or other things they can use to build their structures. Please discuss at home if your child would like to use a material they find at home to build their house. As we finish doing our designs, we would like to welcome parent volunteers who can come to the classroom to help with building (ie. cutting etc). If interested, please email me. I would like start building this Friday afternoon if parents are available. Security clearance is necessary to volunteer. Wear Pink Day

We have been reading the book "The One Hundred Day of School!" by Abby Klein. On Friday we will do many special activities with the number 100. As part of our celebration and going along with the book we are reading, students are asked to bring one hundred or some thing. It can be stickers, cards, marbles, coins, buttons etc. Each student will decide what to bring on Friday, the only rule is that it is no more and no less than 100 and they must count it themselves. Scholastic Orders Orders for scholastic were due yesterday, if there are any orders for the month of February. Please sent them in as soon as possible to place the order. If paying online, I still require the paper copy to process the order. For home work, try doubling these numbers at home using counting by 2's strategy. 1) 5 2) 4 3) 6 4) 2 5) 9 Happy Family Day!

Today's Learning: Today was a very special day in our classroom. Students spent the morning with Scientist Mark learning about light and colors. They conducted several experiments, including, one they got to take home which they can construct with an adult to continue learning about light and color. Students learned about: primary colors, Secondary colors, color mixing, refraction of light, prisms, and the colors of the rainbow (ROYGBIV). Students can watch an episode of Bill Nye over the long weekend to reinforce their learning. Link: https://youtu.be/mek23Erumo0?t=20s As part of our celebrations, we learned about St. Valentine: who he was and his story and why we give out Valentine's Day cards to celebrate. We talked about friendship and made card holders for the valentine's we received from peers today. In the afternoon, Cst. Gary Hartmann come to our class to teach us about police as community helpers. He answered questions and shared interesting information about his uniform and job. Next he read to us a special story called "Odd Violet." We learned that we all are very special and can use our unique and special qualities to be the best we can be to others. We brain stormed a list of qualities together and began a star activity that when finished, Cst. Gary Hartmann will come back to see everyone's work. Below are a few pictures from our day! Que Pasa
Que Pasa forms need to be returned tomorrow if families wish that their child take part in the presentation. Last year, there was no additional costs to parents (field trip money or food cost) as it was covered by schools and funds for the event. We hope it will be the same this year. We are currently gathering information for the number of students who will participate from Rosscarrock school to better coordinate the day. Please note that if choosing not to return the form tomorrow there is no guarantee that your child can join at a later date. Logistically, schools will be planning for busses etc using the information collected tomorrow and will account for students who filled out the form. Some families may still be deciding, I would suggest handing in the signed form tomorrow. If families change their mind and do not wish their child to participate, then we can adjust. By handing in the form tomorrow it would remove the possibility of your child not participating, if there is a change of mind at a later date. Today's Learning: Today we had Scientist Mark come to our classroom this morning. Students learned about the 5 senses through experiments he conducted with students using each of the senses. First students looked at different pictures to learn how our eyes see perception and depth. Next students, closed one eye and tried to bring two fingers fingers together. Scientist Mark talked about the eye and how we see. He also used a tuning fork and aluminum foil to see the vibrations of sound as students learned about the ear drum and hearing. The next experiment involved the sense of taste. Students tried different liquids and identified on their tongue bitter, sweet, salty, sour and savory tastes. Then students learned about smell and did an experiment to identify to scents like lemon, cinnamon, mint, etc. Scientist Mark ended his presentation with the feeling sense. Inside a sock there were items students felt with their hands and made guesses about what was in them. Below are a few photos of our morning. Que Pasa Gala at the Jubilee
Que Pasa Gala is a Spanish Bilingual School wide event that will be held for the second time at the Jubilee.
