Happy Halloween! Today we celebrated the day with centers. We used wiki Sticks to spell Halloween words in Spanish. We also wrote Spanish sentences using "Yo veo" in our journals using halloween words. In Math, we rolled two dice and added the numbers together to find the sum. We also extended AB patterns using Halloween pictures ie. Spider, ghost, Spider, ghost.

A reminder that Friday, November 3, 2017 is Picture Retake and Class Photos. Today we explored ways we can read a book. We discovered that pictures have meaning. and they can help give us clues to better understanding a story. Srta. Sandra read to us a special book called Pumpkin Hill. Srta. Sandra introduced a big word to us called: Predictions. We learned that predictions are guesses. We can guess what might happened in a book or what it might be about by looking for clues. First we looked at the cover. We looked for the title, pictures, author, illustrator to help us get clues. Next, we made our Book Cover Predictions: 1) The frog might get squished by pumpkins. 2) Pumpkin rolling down a hill. 3) The frog might be scared of the pumpkin. 4) The frog might be scared that the pumpkin might crack. 5) It might be a pumpkin patch on top of the hill. 6) Maybe there was a truck and the pumpkin flew out of the truck. 7) Three pumpkins rolling down the hill. 8) Maybe the frog will eat the pumpkin. After making our guesses, we then tried to read the pictures from beginning to end of the book without looking at the words. We had lots of ideas to share and learned that the pictures also have lots of information we can understand if we use them. Srta. Sandra gave us a challenge, to make a story using only the pictures. After we read the story, we compared how close our story was to the actual story. Our class Pumpkin Hill Story Prediction: A pumpkin patch is growing on the hill. The cows are eating grass. The squirrels were surprised when the pumpkin rolled down the hill and crashed. The farmer is mad that the pumpkin rolled away. When the pumpkin crashed all the seeds fell out and they made a pumpkin patch. The seeds sprouted and the ants ate the leaves. The pumpkins are all rolling and the cat is running away. The pumpkins roll to the city. There are pumpkins everywhere. There are tons of pumpkins in the factory. They made pumpkin pie. Everyone is happy they have a pumpkin to carve. The mayor is announcing that all the kids can carve pumpkins. They use them as a bowl for candy when they trick-or-treat. The farmer is happy because the kids all visit him. Jack-o-lanterns are on the street.
A reminder that there is Pizza lunch for students who ordered online on Friday October 27, 2017

Dear Families,
Starting on November 6, 2017 our school will be undertaking a project called, “Stephen’s Backpack”. Stephen’s Backpack Project is about giving the gift of hope. Stephen is a little boy with Autism who wanted to help all the homeless children of Calgary. He created a project where he, with the help of others, would fill backpacks with essentials and toys for children living on the street. His wish is to give children the gift of hope and Student Voice is going to help lead this project. From November 7, 2017-November 17, 2017 we are asking families to bring gently used toys and books to donate to a Toy Sale. This toy sale will provide the funds to purchase the items for the backpacks. We will store all these items in school during that week. On November 21, we will have an all-day Toy Sale. This is where all students, during their gym time will have a chance to go shopping for themselves or a loved one. Items will vary in price (up to $10.00), and all the money will go toward filling the backpacks. If you have any questions or are able to volunteer with setup, takedown or being a cashier, please feel free to Brenna Fraser ([email protected]) Brenna Fraser Alfredo Penate Michelle Chrustie A few reminders:
