Today Srta. Sandra read the story Alpha- Oops! In the story, the letter Z grew tired being last and traded places with A. All the other letters liked Z's idea and decided they would change places too. All the alphabet got mixed up. Srta. Sandra gave us a mission today- put the letters in order again from A to Z.

Today some of our jitter bugs made our tummies fill with butterflies. Srta. Sandra helped us understand that we can have Blue days. We read a book called The Blue Day Book for Kids and discovered that we can feel shy, sad, lonely, grumpy, tired and have low energy when we are in a Blue Zone. We brainstormed ways we can cheer up like: drawing a picture, sitting with a friend, eating a crunchy snack, quiet time, reading a book, and sitting in a chair instead of on the carpet. Can you think of any more ways you can cheer up when having a Blue day or when in the Blue Zone?
The student voice will be starting Monday,September 25, 2017 and will be held in the library every Monday or every other Monday. Student Voice is looking for two leaders from each classroom to be representatives. These students will focus on day to day school situations, finding solutions and sharing their input on how we can make our school a better place for everyone! In science we learned about the 5 senses: touch, taste, hear, see, smell. We made guesses about which of the 5 senses we could use if we were near: flowers, ice/snow, Art/ paintings, a warm drink, and a puppy. We discovered that animals also use their 5 senses. They can use their sense of touch to find food, run, swim, climb, fly and stay safe. We learned a duck uses its feathers to sense the wind and breeze, high in the sky. Also, a Raccoon uses its fingers to find food in the dark.
The ADmazing Savings Ticket pack order forms went home today. If families wish to order, please return them by September 29th. Today Srta. Sandra read the book I Like Myself! We shared with each other things we like. Some of us like that we are fast runners, others like their pretty hair, and another liked that they are a good pet owner. All of these things are what make us special and unique. Today we drew our face inside a mirror and wrote one thing we like about ourselves.
Respect is our special word for the month of September. We are learning what it means and how to show it to ourselves, our classroom, at home, and in our school. Srta. Sandra helped us understand the special word by reading the book I Show Respect! We brainstormed a list of what it means to us. We will practice showing respect to ourselves and others this year. Today we used our voices to sing the Alphabet song and learned there are two kinds of letters; upper and lower case. We learned how to hold a pencil using two fingers and our thumb to make a crocodile mouth. Srta. Sandra showed us how to write the letters of the alphabet using the "magic C" and helping find the "hooking" letters. We then practiced tracing our letters all by ourselves. We are excited to share our printing work at home with you tonight.
Today we read the book The Pout-Pout Fish Goes to School. We shared what we would like to learn this year. Ask me about it!
Demographic forms are due back to the school on September 15th. Dear Families,
Today was a fantastic day in grade 1! We made new friends and read the book First Grade Jitters. We made a recipe card for "jitter juice" to take home and make as needed. We also made some patterns with shapes. Please note, student demographic forms went home today. Please review student information and return all forms completed. Srta. Sandra Dear Families,
Welcome to the 2017-18 school year at Rosscarrock School! My name is Srta. Sandra Imperadeiro and I am very excited to be your child’s teacher this year. I am originally from Edmonton, and I have lived in Calgary for 8 years. This is my eighth year as a teacher with the Calgary Board of Education, and my second year as a teacher at Rosscarrock School. Our first days will certainly be exciting for all of us. We have planned many wonderful tasks for your child. Before school starts, I will be meeting the students near the compound doors facing soccer field. I will be wearing a pink vest and a nametag. My picture, name and student class list will be posted on the wall (First name and initial of each student). There will be many adults (wearing pink vests) around to help direct your child to the correct place to line up. I will be outside at 8:10am on that day. In the event of inclement weather, we will meet students in our school gym. If your child is coming to school by bus that first day, the busses generally arrive at Rosscarrock School around 8:10am. An adult will greet students on the bus, and will direct them to me if they don’t know who I am or where to go. If you have yet to check the bus routes, maps can be found on the CBE website- http://cbe.ab.ca/schools/busing-and-transportation/Pages/bus-maps-and-schedules.aspx. Please make sure that you child knows the bus letter! Include it somewhere on or in their backpack just in case (ex. on their nametag). Please be aware that staff will write the letter of the bus on the students’ hands as they get off the bus. If you are bringing your child to school that day, please plan to say good-bye at the door at 8:25am. It will be a very busy day inside the school, and we want to start to establish ‘normal’ right from the first day. At the end of the day, I will be bringing children to the door where you dropped them off. You can meet them there! A bus buddy will bring children who are taking the bus to the bus. School ends at 2:50pm. The school will be providing all school supplies. Students only need to bring a backpack, a snack in a container, lunch, and labeled indoor shoes (should they have them at this time). A classroom blog will be used to communicate agenda messages and any homework/learning done in class. Students and parents my access the blog through this link: smimperadeiro.weebly.com See you soon!!!!! Srta. Sandra Imperadeiro Room 11 |
