Cultural Night
Please return Cultural Night participation forms by January 30th. Please ask if you have any questions or would like help from me. Last year we had a beautiful night of celebration of culture and community at Rosscarrock school. I would like to encourage families to attend this special evening in February as an attendee or participant. It is a great way to form connections with other families and also learn about the unique cultures in our school. Salvador Dali Project This week we completed a journal entry to tell what we have learned about Salvador Dali. We also studied and analyzed the painting "The Persistence of Memory." We looked at the shades and colors he used as well as how the sunlight is shining from one angle. We also looked for secret hidden objects like the ants on the pocket watch and the face of an old man hidden in what appears to be melted cheese or rock. We made predictions about the meaning behind the symbols of the melting clock and the sleeping man. After discussing we concluded that the clock meant time was melting away or passing by and made connections between the words: memory and time. Students then worked to create their own interpretation of "The Persistence of Memory" using similar lines and shapes and explored surrealism by creating their own pieces of fantasy to add to their work. They used dark and light coloring techniques to mimic the sun shining.
